A Look at Our Favorite Books

March 7th, 2020 Our Team
Books to Read On International Women's Day

Today is International Women’s Day, and we wanted to acknowledge the day in the best way we know-how, sharing our most loved books by our favorite women authors.

Located directly outside of Melanie and Danielle’s office is a nook called “The Cozy Corner.” This space is home to a couple of comfy chairs and, of course, a bookshelf that quickly turned into a library filled with books for us to share with our fellow book-loving coworkers.

The majority of the books you will find lining the shelves at our office are “romantic thrillers.” These books always have a million twists and turns, lots of complex characters, unpredictable endings, and are hard to put down. When we find a book we truly love, we share it with our in-office book club and constantly ask the current reader, “are you finished reading yet?” We love to catch up over lunch about these stories and see if everyone guessed the ending, listen to their theories, and hear about their favorite parts. Some of our favorite thrillers are the following:

  • Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
  • The Woman in Cabin 10 by Ruth Ware
  • The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
  • The Couple Next Door by Shari LaPena
  • Luckiest Girl Alive by Jessica Knoll
  • Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarity
  • Then She Was Gone by Lisa Jewell
  • You by Caroline Kepnes
  • Behind Closed Doors by B.A. Paris
  • Verity by Colleen Hoover

Melanie is our resident working mom raising her little girl gang at home. When she isn’t reading the page-turning thrillers, she loves to dive into books written by moms for moms. These books have taught her it is okay to give herself some grace while also knowing she can do it all. Over the last two years in this role, she has come across a few books that she can call her favorites:

  • The Magic of Motherhood by Ashlee Gadd
  • The Simplified Life by Emily Ley
  • The Fringe Hours by Jessica N. Turner
  • Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis
  • Confessions of a Domestic Failure by Bunmi Laditan

Danielle is a self-proclaimed pop culture lover, reality TV junkie, and Bravo-holic. She is the resident reader at the office—she’s already finished about 15 books since the new year—and most of the thrillers are from her list. Though she tends to gravitate toward the mystery genre, sometimes she just wants a good laugh. Here are some of her favorite light-hearted reads:

  • Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? by Mindy Kaling
  • When Life Gives You Lululemons by Lauren Weisberger
  • The White Girl Problems Series by Babe Walker
  • Sloppy Firsts by Megan McCafferty
  • The Vacationers by Emma Straub

Happy International Women’s Day, celebrate by lighting that candle, pouring a nice glass of red, and curling up with a good book!
